There was a time

What this story about?
✓ A long science-fantasy tale involving infected dragons, riders and magic.
✓ A girl who carries the cure for that infection in her blood, and a dragon-human hybrid to whom she is bonded.
✓ A human who possesses a forbidden power, with no memory of how he learned it, and a rider who has sworn never to use magic.
✓ An ensemble saga with more on friendships than romance.
In the Laboratory (one of the Three Pillars of Raogar) a girl named Mura resists the umbra infection, becoming the first rider to survive the very affliction that destroyed the consciousness of the dragons and rendered humans forever unable to wield magic.
At the Academy, another of the Three Pillars, new recruits aspiring to become Protectors begin their training. Their mission: to confront the dragons and safeguard humanity. Among these novices are two young men, Seban and Ronalt, both harboring secrets of their own. Secrets involving forbidden magic and the dragons themselves.
Their worlds collide when Mura, the only person in all of Raogar whose blood holds the key to curing the umbra, decides to escape the Laboratory alongside her infected dragon. She joins the ranks of the Protectors, becoming part of Seban and Ronalt’s squad, all while keeping hidden the truth: that she is the very key to restoring peace to Raogar.

FaQ
What is the genre of the story?
It’s a military science-fantasy! This means it combines military fantasy (the Academy functions much like an army) with science fiction, since, in this universe, society has leaned heavily into technology as an alternative to magic.
Is it a romance?
While romantic pairings do emerge throughout the story, I wouldn’t classify it as a romance novel; the romance itself plays a very minor role.
What other novels is it similar to?
It’s hard to compare it to other novels! The story actually began as a comic for a contest, and later became a webcomic. It draws inspiration from manga and animated series such as Attack on Titan, Bleach, Jujutsu Kaisen, The Mighty Nein...
Where can I read it?
You can find it in Spanish on Wattpad and in English on Royal Road (please note that the English version is not a professional translation; it was done by me with the help of Google Translate).
How long is it?
Although it is serialized in arcs (much like manga), it was originally conceived as a tetralogy. You can expect the complete story to span approximately 400,000 words.
When will it be released?
The first five chapters will be released on March 13, 2027! I can’t say exactly how long the story will run, but it will certainly span well over a year.
